Operations Director (Part Time) - OOA
The Oregon Outdoor Alliance (OOA), a non-profit trade association based in Bend, OR, seeks a dynamic PART TIME Operations Director to help operate the organization and build its membership base and statewide reach.
The new Operations Director will be expected to build the membership and coordinate various programs as the organization advances its goals in the years ahead. The Director will report into the Board President and work closely with the OOA Board of Directors and Chapters. The position calls for a creative leader with strategic management and communications skills, as well as strong organizational skills and political savvy .
The Oregon Outdoor Alliance (OOA) was formed in 2012 by a group of industry professionals and stakeholders to serve as the central organization to promote the growth of the outdoor industry in Oregon. The organization was founded in Bend and is now starting additional chapters in Portland and Southern Oregon. There is potential for several other regional chapters in the state as we move forward. OOA holds Beer Thirty networking events every other month, and additional events in the off months.
We exist to unify and inspire our outdoor community. We support our members through events, resources, and advocacy. We champion a vibrant and growing outdoor industry in Oregon.
MAKE AN IMPACT IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
Provide operational implementation of strategic initiatives as directed by the Board of Directors and the development, management, and evaluation of programs, initiatives and resources to meet defined goals and objectives within budget. Help ensure that programs are strategic, effective, and well-coordinated internally and with allied groups and coalitions.
•Operations: Coordinate all day-to-day activities of OOA including, but not limited to: budget, programs, outreach communications, and all general administrative matters including financial operations, contracts, audits, and grant compliance. Other functions include Board and committee management and accountability, and general business operations such as: insurance, legal and banking.
•Program Expansion: Work with the board on strategic planning, financial growth, chapter expansion, and expansion of membership and member services. Grow membership numbers, overall reach and sponsorship relationships.
•Communications & Outreach: Coordinate with the Board and Chapters on all communications and outreach including website content, events, newsletters, and social media. Provide strategic input in preparing membership communications, annual reports, promotional brochures, and other marketing materials. Be the first point of contact for new membership inquiries and general questions.
•Community Relations: Collaborate with the Board and Chapters to ensure strong representation of the organization to the outdoor industry, vendor community, and other organizations. Speak at, or coordinate a board member to speak at, conferences and other forums. Develop and maintain extensive professional network across a diverse group of stakeholders.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Has 5+ years’ experience in the outdoor industry or non-profit management.
The candidate should be comfortable working with a board of directors, supporting volunteer committees across multiple geographies, and juggling multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
Candidates should possess the strategic and political savvy to strengthen and advance the organization.
The organization seeks a strong professional with a collaborative leadership style and diverse skills, a demonstrated record of successful management and experience, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, high energy, tight efficiency, excellent communication skills, entrepreneurial drive, and a strong commitment to OOA’s mission.
While the Board is engaged in doing hands on committee work, the Operations Director will be relied upon to drive committee work and hold people accountable to deadlines and deliverables.
The candidate should have the ability to think strategically and creatively within budget limits. A willingness to travel occasionally to attend conferences and meetings is required.
Patience, imagination, good judgment, and a sense of humor are also qualities the association seeks in a successful candidate.
SALARY & BENEFITS
This is a part-time contract position, renewable annually. The intent is for this to grow into a full-time position in the future should organizational growth through this role’s efforts prove fruitful. This position is estimated to require around 25 hrs per week of working time. No benefits or relocation allowances are provided. Travel expenses will be reimbursed outside the Bend area. Candidate is expected to provide computer, cell phone and internet access. OOA does not have an office at this time so the Operations Director should be prepared to work from home and
meet people in their workspace or around the community.
